Builders' Boulevard

I'm feeling incredibly bored with The Sims these days.  The only thing I truly enjoy doing is building for the BnS challenges, as other aspects of game play don't interest me at the moment.  I've tried legacies, I did my own homeless challenge, and none of it's doing it for me.  Unfortunately, I am the type who finishes the BnS challenges within the first three days, so I wind up with nothing to do from Sunday to Wednesday.

For this reason, I was wondering if the Builders' Boulevard members might enjoy doing smaller, optional building challenges during off times.  They wouldn't be formally judged entries, just casual challenges that we can display in a picture thread here.

Possible challenge themes might include: beach-themed starter home, mansion in the mountains, recreate your childhood home, and so forth.  Again, this wouldn't be anything formal, but rather just a place where members can give challenge ideas and then show off the results, for those of us who have too much time on our hands.  Another benefit I see is that it might give the more inexperienced builders (like myself) a chance to practice their skills in a guided way.  I know I usually have more trouble building if I'm doing it free-form rather than through a challenge. ;)

So what do y'all think?  Interested?

Great idea, jayemmpee!  I've actually been kicking a few challenge ideas for awhile now too, but I've been saving them until we got our own website, forums, and a healthy little group of people before I try anything. I think we're just about there!  :)

I would LOVEEEEE this!  I'm getting a bit burnt out on my legacy too.  I tried doing it in Gnomelandia thinking it would be more interesting, but all the custom characters everyone created up and moved out of town!  So now i'm stuck there with "normal" people and my gene pool is going to die out with all the integration lol.   **sigh**   I love building most of all and would love to do more smaller challenges.

I'm glad to see that there's some interest.  I know that we're about to embark on a lengthy and involved challenge with this week's Summer of Love project, but maybe we could try starting something like this the following week?

I might enter. I love challenges but obviously can't enter my own. :) Maybe we could stagger deadline days so they won't hit too close together.

I would love that. I was actually hoping that once i solve my constrainfloorelevation wall problem and plop my furniture in, that there would be lots left enough for me to do a second.

I tend to have a ton of free time at work. I'm mostly here for minor emergencies and aesthetics anyway. There is very random days where i actually have anything to do.

If you need a listkeeper or something, im stupidly good @ organization. I just cant post to thesims3 forum @ work.  (i swear sometimes this game hates me.)

I am having the opposite problem - I start building and 'creating styles' - then get sidetracked and find I am playing! - I have played more in Sims 3 than I did in the last year of Sims 2.. and that was the year I started playing.

Addict - you do not judge any category - so why do you disqualify yourself from entering ? Judging yourself would be a problem- but you would be judged by someone else..

I think it is an awesome idea. You've inspired me, jayemmpee, to offer a challenge of my own. You can view it if you wish in this forum's challenge area here.

Thank you so much. :) I hope you are not offended if I took your idea of a fun challenge and offered one. I gave the credit of the idea of a fun-type challenge to you.

Rather than have any "deadlines" it might be good to just have ideas thrown out for people to do and showcase.  I plan to do former challenges, since I wasn't aware of the Build n' Share challenges th efirst few weeks.

As well, having non-challenge neighborhood builds would be fun.  Something that might take longer than one week to complete.  That way, teams of builders can work on lots without any time restraints.  I never work well with deadlines.  And know I'm not the only one.  I've seen a lot of good builders fall out of challenges because of time.

So,we'd have better neighborhoods, no competitiveness, and restrict it to members of Builders' Boulevard, so we can have better control of what goes into the builds.  And be able to work on multiple projects at a leisurely pace.

I hope I can join all of you later- right now- I am late with "Sunrise Impressions" as it is- had probs with my Yogi House- and - after maybe spending a total of 4 months time playing the sims2 from release date of base game to release of Sims3- I have to force myself to stop playing and build!

Good ideas, Gillian!

Ruth, I don't enter because I have the advantage of knowing the contents before the challenges are announced, so I could have an unfair advantage even if I'm not the judge. I occasionally build them and share anyway, and lots of challenges are cropping up to keep me busy. Plus all the little "projects" I keep dreaming up for myself!
