It would be so awesome to have a Harry Potter neighborhood, make a Hogsmeade and Hogwarts castle itself! Plus the Weasley's house, Diagon Alley, The Leaking Cauldron, Privet Drive, etc.

I was actually thinking about this. I did 'hoods for Hogsmeade and Godric's Hollow and had started on Diagon Alley and some other lots. I just wasn't satisfied with either  available map in TS3 for what I wanted. It just kept holding me back  - but now that the build a world tool is coming out, I am rethinking what I can do.  The big hold up for me is the rabbit holes.. if you have ideas, I would love a partner in crime (or Vice Versa...)

Super idea!  Looks like the new WA expansion might have some cool new things that would help with achieving the look.

Oh, that sounds awesome! And I have heard that the CAW tool will let us create stores without rabbit holes, so it will fix that problem!

Its nice to see I am not alone in my near obsession.  I been plotting all weekend.  So far I have two rough sketch versions of potential nhoods - and, more specifically, how many and what size lots might be needed for the primary  areas of the HP world. Started a clean map of Sunset Valley and designated lots for building purposes and started building a few lots.

On a potentially positive note, MelissaMel posted a set of signs that have all the functions of Rabbit Holes. I haven't tested them yet, but I plan to on my first set of Diagon Alley shops - just to see how well they work before I proceed with too much community lot building.  I am not sure the CAW will let us create non-rabbit hole stores, but I am pretty sure that World  Adventures has non-rabbit holes stores in it, so hopefully the functionality will exist for "normal" word stores, as well.

If any one is interested in formalizing a working group, let me know. You can see the HP stuff I did over at MTS. I use the same handle.

How about using the new CAW tool to make a custom neighborhood for it?

Here is what Ruthless said about the CAW tool when she got back from Simposium:

"The store thing works like this:  once the CAW comes out you can build a store and save the lot.  Then in CAW there isa cheat that lets you pick the designation for the buildings.  So, you can call your building a book store or the gym or whatever and the game will recognize it as such as will the simmies.  That way they can go in to shop instead of you waiting outside for them to come out.  Now, we can't be store owners yet and run the thing...with the cash register a 'merchant' will spawn and you click on him to buy what is in the store....but at least we have something."

Sherry1968 - That's good to know. Really good to know. I hadn't seen that comment although I have been digesting what I can on the CAW tool from various previews on the net.

Kitkat, not sure if you were asking me or not, if so,  I guess my post wasn't clear - I do intend to make a custom hood - the cleared Sunset Valley is so that I have lots of different sizes to build on in preparation for CAW, as it will allow you to import lots into the hood.  Since the only thing I can do right now to move my projects forward pre-CAW is to build with what I have.

It would be great if someone could build a Godric's Hollow Neighborhood. I think someone will have to get in fast to be able to create the ruins of Harry's home. I'd be happy to start working out architectural inspirations for the small town. We'd also then have to work out how to promote it, I could start work on a banner, and also post a thread on the Sims 3 Forums

I'm not very familiar with the HP books, so this may not be what you've been looking for, but you shoudl check out this world on the TS3 forums. I have downloaded it before and really enjoyed the fantasy-style architecture.
